There are a number of points that you should remember about chrome diopside. Firstly, gems of big size are generally with dark tone, this way they should be carefully cut to keep the angles shallow to improve brilliance and clarity. But gems of 2 carats and smaller has an amazingly vivid color. Another particular feature of chrome diopside in comparison to tsavorite and emerald is its softness. The gem usually has 5 to 6.5 at Mohs scale of hardness. But you should realize that Mohs hardness scale does not measure tensile strength or resistance to fracture. It just signifies that chrome diopside is relatively soft to scratch. So note that jewelry with chrome diopside has to be stored carefully in order to avoid being scratched. That is also the reason why chrome diopside gems are not suitable for rings. Meanwhile, they are perfect for pendants and earrings and look fantastic in gold.
